More About the City of Kokomo, Indiana
We love being your orthodontist in Kokomo, Indiana. Kokomo is the county seat of Howard County, and Indiana’s 13th largest city with a popular of 58,000 residents. Settlers arrived in Howard County in the early 1800s, including David Foster who owned most of the land before donating 40 acres to the development of Kokomo, which became a city in 1854. Named after the Chief Kokomo of the Miami Tribe, Kokomo was connected to Indianapolis by railroad prior to the Civil War. The city saw economic growth as a result of the discovery of a large natural gas reserve, followed by a growing automobile industry.
In 2011, a major employer invested nearly $1.3 billion in Kokomo, pushing the city forward and revitalizing the downtown center. A riverfront district was established, 17 new businesses opened downtown, and the city created the City Line trolley system, expanding its transportation network.
Since then, Kokomo has continued investing in revitalization development with a downtown parking garage project, municipal stadium, a solar park, residential units, a soccer complex and state-of-the-art YMCA.
Downtown Kokomo features live music, festivals, local dining, nightlife, boutique shopping and more. With a backdrop of historic buildings and public art spaces, the downtown center is home to an outdoor amphitheater, upscale restaurants, casual fare, art galleries, and vintage shops. Every First Friday of the year, the community gathers downtown for an open house tour of the art galleries and shops throughout Kokomo. Each month has a theme, and venues cater their activities to them, such as Main Street Mystery, Artsapalooza and Home for the Holidays.
Locals and visitors can also visit one of the three museums in Kokomo, including the Kokomo Automotive Museum, Elwood Haynes Museum, and the Seiberling Mansion. During the summer months, Kokomo Jackrabbit fans can watch the baseball team play at the Kokomo Municipal Stadium – a 4,000 fan capacity stadium that has been voted the Best Summer Collegiate Ballpark two years running by Ballpark Digest.
Kokomo is home to four public school districts, nine private schools, and several higher education institutions such as Indiana University Kokomo, Indiana Wesleyan University, and Ivy Tech Community College. And we love serving them all as the preferred orthodontist in Kokomo, Indiana by many students.
